Case Study: Blackbird Theatre presents Uncle Vanya

The Client

Established in 2005, Blackbird Theatre Company is Vancouver’s foremost presenter of classical theatre, drawing its inspiration from the great playwrights of the ancient and modern worlds. This December, Blackbird Theatre presented Anton Chekhov’s masterpiece Uncle Vanya, December 23, 2013 – January 18, 2014 in the Historic Theatre at The Cultch.

The Campaign

Laura Murray Public Relations was hired to provide a full service marketing campaign for the production, including graphic design, advertising buy, online marketing, social media, promotions, and media relations.

The Results

Blackbird Theatre’s Uncle Vanya had a vibrant presence throughout the Lower Mainland. From street corners to newspapers, from bus stops to banner ads, the production’s beautifully designed artwork jumped out to audiences and artists everywhere they looked.

The media relations campaign saw coverage in The Vancouver Sun, The Georgia Straight, Globe & Mail, The Province, Burnaby Now, The Vancouver Courier, Vancouver Vantage, Inside Vancouver, The Charlebois Post, Vancity Buzz, Review Vancouver, CBC Radio One: North by Northwest, CBC Téléjournal, among many others.

As a result, revenue goals were shattered and Blackbird Theatre played to bursting houses throughout the production’s four-week run.
