SHARE: MPMG’S Wellness in the Workplace Tips
The MPMG team shares our favourite tips for staying grounded, energized, and inspired throughout the workday.
Laura Murray, Founding Partner:
Stay Hydrated
I have a big, brightly coloured water bottle that has become a staple on my desk. It has an hourly hydration tracker printed on the bottle to help remind me to sip throughout the day (I need that!). Ever since I purchased the bottle, I’ve attempted to remain fairly consistent with my hydration habits, and as a result, I’m happy to report that I have noticed an improvement on my energy levels and my daily snacking consumption.
Brian Paterson, Partner:
Make Music
At the depths of the pandemic, I had a game-changing observation: On the days I picked up my guitar to play music my mood, energy, and outlook were vastly improved! And there’s a good reason why: Thanks to research, we know that making music lights up the entirety of our central nervous system, releases dopamine, and even contributes to long-term brain health.
Today, I commit to playing at least three songs throughout the work (from home) day. If you don’t play an instrument – good news: Singing also has huge mental and emotional benefits!
Angela Poon, Senior Communications Manager:
“Bare Minimum” Mondays
Chances are you’ve seen the endless memes online about easing into productivity and mental overwhelm at the beginning of a workweek. The cheeky philosophy has made a huge positive impact on my wellbeing at work. Rather than jumping into big project work or juicy creative tasks, I use my Monday mornings as a time to check in, organize, and set my path for the week ahead. It’s an instant mood booster and helps me feel more productive for the rest of the week.
Sijia Cheng, Digital Marketing Manager:
Plant Therapy
Research indicates that nature is good for you. The scientists aren’t wrong. What’s more therapeutic than burying your face in your own indoor jungle during the depths of Vancouver’s late-winter doom and gloom – especially when your best work friend at home is your laptop (Lol)? I started tending to a hopeful little herb garden year round. It not only gives me a reason to get up from my desk to stretch my legs when I water them, but it’s also a fun, hands-on way to connect with nature and boost my mood. Plus, nothing says “I’ve got it together” quite like a thriving basil plant on the windowsill.
