Case Study: The Vancouver Recital Society presents Yo-Yo Ma and Kathryn Stott

The Client

Formed in 1980, the Vancouver Recital Society presents an annual recital series featuring the world finest classical musicians and emerging generations of artistic greats. This March the Vancouver Recital Society (VRS) presented the internationally acclaimed cellist Yo-Yo Ma and his longtime-collaborator Kathryn Stott in a stimulating afternoon concert at The Orpheum.

The Campaign

Laura Murray Public Relations were hired to provide a media relations campaign that would secure high-levels of editorial coverage and public awareness around the VRS’s presentation of Yo-Yo Ma and Kathryn Stott. The broad range of activities included composing and distributing a press release, pitching local journalists to write features, securing the attendance of reviewers, and running pre-event contests with media.

The Results

The concert would prove to be so popular that, after selling out every single seat in The Orpheum, the VRS would add nearly 100 additional seats on the stage itself. Even then, a line formed outside the venue on the day of concert, full of individuals hoping to scoop up tickets from last-minute cancellations or no-shows.

Interviews, articles, previews, contests and reviews were secured with publications and outlets throughout the Lower Mainland. Coverage highlights included: The Vancouver Sun, The Georgia Straight, The Globe & Mail, Vancity Buzz, Kan Zhong Guo, Vancouver Weekly, CBC, The Westender, and The North Shore News among many others.
