Case Study: Vancouver Bach Choir presents Christmas with the Bach Choir and Handel’s Messiah
The Client
The Vancouver Bach Choir (VBC) is an award-winning 120+ voice symphonic choir committed to offering vibrant choral experiences to its audiences. This December, the VBC presented two magical holiday concerts at the historic Orpheum Theatre: Christmas with the Bach Choir featuring all levels of the choral institution from the tiny Piccolo choir (ages 5-7) through to the Adult singers (Dec. 1) and Handel’s masterwork and beloved Christmas tradition, Messiah (Dec. 14).
The Campaign
Laura Murray Public Relations was hired to provide a full service marketing campaign for both concerts, including graphic design and the development of season branding, season advertising buy, online marketing, media sponsorship, promotions, and media relations.
The Results
The VBC’s presence in the Lower Mainland was undeniable – with audiences, musicians, and the general public commenting on the beautiful poster design that resembled exquisite stained glass and that was visible virtually everywhere they looked. A 15-year attendance record for Christmas with the Bach Choir was broken and the house for Messiah was completely sold out. The Bach Choir popped up in unexpected locations throughout the city, performing for enthusiastic shoppers at two festive craft fairs, as well as for staff and volunteers in the warehouse of the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society.
The media relations campaign saw coverage in The Province, The Vancouver Sun, Metro News, The Georgia Straight, Ming Pao, Lynden Tribune, The Vancouver Courier, Vancouver Vantage, Family Fun Vancouver, Hello Vancity, Global BC, CBC Téléjournal, CBC Radio One: On the Coast, among many others.
