Review Process and Application Assessment

Applications will be reviewed for eligibility and completeness by a senior panel of MPMG staff. Please note that eligibility and completeness are the responsibilities of the applicant. 

Each panelist will score applications based on the evaluation criteria outlined in the guidelines below. Panelists will meet to collectively discuss applications, and scores will be averaged together to yield a total average score for each application.

The evaluation criteria are the means by which the review panelists score each grant application. Not all applications will necessarily meet all criteria. 

Each criterion will be scored out of five. Maximum total points possible = 30. Any application scoring two or below on any of the six listed criteria will be ineligible for support.

Applications will be evaluated using the following listed criteria:

1. Artistic Merit: Explores emotional, conceptual, and culturally relevant subjects, innovates with form and expression, challenges boundaries and provokes thoughts, advances practice of participating artists

2. Audience Reach: Broadens access to the performing arts, appeals and is relevant to a wide range of demographics, size of venue, number of performances, financially accessible

3. Marketing Impact: Opportunity for the MPMG team to significantly amplify the work, a coherent brand, a functional website in place, a clear, concise storyline, a clear plan for project implementation

4. Community Impact: Addresses an issue facing a given community, draws attention to a cause, considers community needs, helps strengthen community, 

5. Project Sustainability: Longevity of the work, future touring potential, contribution to larger artistic ecosystem, demonstration of project feasibility with a clear budget and existing financial support

6. Diversity, Equity and Inclusion: Supports and services underrepresented/ marginalized populations, creates opportunities for marginalized artists, encourages cross-cultural collaborations, advances accessibility for audiences

Scoring Guide:

5 – Meets or exceeds all criteria 

4 – Meets most criteria

3 – Meets some criteria

2 – Meets a few criteria

1 – Does not meet any criteria 

0 – Question left unanswered, response provides insufficient detail to understand the application proposal.
