Unscripted. Unstaged. Amanda Green.

Unscripted. Unstaged. is an interview series from Laura Murray Public Relations that speaks with fascinating artists, advocates, administrators, and other individuals who keep the Canadian artistic community visible, viable, and vibrant.

This week we spoke with First Soloist Amanda Green of Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet. Amanda trained at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School and spent a season dancing with Columbus, Ohio’s Ballet Met, before returning to the RWB.  She will be performing the lead of Trilby, in the upcoming production of Svengali, which runs in Vancouver from April 20-22 at the Centre for Performing Arts in Vancouver.

Q: If we were introduced at a party – what are the three things you would be excited to share about yourself?

I LOVE to travel. Experiencing new countries and cultures is a blast. Every summer I try to go somewhere that I have never been before. One of my goals in life is to visit every country in the world.

My boyfriend and I own an old house that we are currently renovating. Believe it or not sweat equity is fun!  Now all I have to do is convince my boyfriend of that.

This might be cliché, but I have a shoe fetish.  This coincides very well with my traveling agenda.  Good thing my suitcase is expandable.

Q: If we checked your nightstand, what books would we find you reading right now?

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, but it has been there for months…

Q: If we checked your computer, what favourite sites would be bookmarked?

Grooveshark, Foodgawker, and Stumbleupon.

Q: How did you come to do what you do – was there a defining moment you can tell us about?

There wasn’t one particular moment, but I’m very close with my sister and she got me into ballet. At age 12 she decided to audition for the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School. I, a 10 year old, looking up to her older sister, followed suit and we were both accepted.  Our endlessly supportive parents decided to let us pursue our dreams and here I am after many years of dedication and hard work.

Q: When it comes to marketing, is there a particular campaign or a poster, advertisement, or promotion that made a significant impact or that stands out in your mind?

Nothing stands out in my mind, but humour tends to be present in the advertisements that I find most enjoyable.

Q: Lastly, what inspires you?

When someone is really passionate about what they are doing. My parents always told me to always give 110%. To this day, I still live by these words of wisdom.
